FBINAA Leadership Certification Program
Nassau County

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services in cooperation with the FBI National Academy Associates (FBINAA) is pleased to announce an offering of the FBINAA Leadership Certification Program. This program will be open to New York State law enforcement officials only and will be hosted in Nassau County.

The FBINAA Leadership Certification Program is a series of courses, open to law enforcement professionals serving in a leadership capacity within their agency. The training program will encompass the latest strategies, techniques, and real-world leadership scenarios to prepare each attendee to better lead their respective agency into the unpredictable future of law enforcement. This program was developed in conjunction with Strategic Alliance, Legal and Liability Risk Management Institute, to continue to develop Gold Standard law enforcement leaders across the country during these critical times.

Topics covered will include, but not be limited to:

  • Learning how to enhance performance
  • Identifying your personal leadership style
  • Mastering the Q6 Performance Leadership Model
  • Learning the nuances of successfully leading a multi-generational team
  • The importance and value of open communications between leader and follower
  • Mastering the fundamental principles of effective leadership and efficient management
  • Scenario specific real-world applications to enhance leader growth, using lessons learned
  • Topics, exercises, and scenarios will continually be updated as current events emerge weekly in this profession

FBINAA Leadership Program Layout
The FBINAA Leadership Certification Program consists of 10 days of training spread out over three separate in-person training sessions. Attendance at all three sessions is a mandatory requirement to be able to attend the program. The required trainings are as follows:

  • Course One: “Meeting the Leadership Challenges of Law Enforcement”
    • Monday, Sep. 23 – Wednesday, Sep. 25, 2024
  • Course Two: “Mastering the Leadership Challenges of Law Enforcement”
    • Monday, Oct. 14 – Friday, Oct. 18, 2024
  • Course Three: “FBINAA Forum on Demonstration, Protest & Riot Tactics”
    • Tuesday, Nov. 5 – Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024
  • Complete a Self-Study Research Paper assigned by FBINAA after the completion of all three in person trainings.
    • Attendees will have 60 days to complete the project after being assigned a topic by FBINAA.

 All three live in person trainings will be held in Nassau County. 

Registration Process & Pre-Requisites

Seating in this program is limited. All interested parties must register with DCJS in order to be considered for a seat. Registering for the program does not guarantee a spot in the program. Those selected to attend will be notified 2-3 weeks prior to the first training in October.

Those interested in applying must be a law enforcement official with the rank of Lieutenant or higher within their agency. Applying officers should also have supervisory responsibilities of staff within their agency. All officers who are selected to attend are required to partake in all phases of the program.
