In recent years motor vehicle crashes have become the leading cause of fatalities of law enforcement officers. Recognizing this alarming trend NHTSA has released this new report that was prepared using data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS). Currently FARS is the only database that contains detailed information on the fatal crashes that involved law enforcement officers.
Many thanks to our friend and colleague, Retired Chief John Coyle, NHTSA Region II Law Enforcement Liaison, for providing us with this information and also for his continued support to our Association.
